Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of induced relaxation where your quiet mind is better able to focus on things that you want to discover, change or accomplish in your life. When our minds are quiet and our bodies are relaxed, we are more open to receiving wisdom from within ourselves along with new ideas we may have never thought of before.

Hypnosis can help you make positive changes in your life by using relaxation to mentally turn inward. It is empowering and encouraging. You will come away feeling calm, confident and inspired.

What are some misconceptions about hypnosis?

Some people believe that hypnosis is a magic bullet where you show up to have a session, close your eyes and wake up an hour or so later not remembering anything. Then after the session is over, whatever you came in for is automatically fixed. This is a very common misconception and it's ok if you thought this too!

In reality, anytime you agree to be hypnotized, you’re signing up to be involved in the process of learning more about yourself. Hypnosis is all about doing a deep dive into who YOU are, and you’re there for the entire experience. You will remember everything.

There is never a moment during your session when you’re not aware of what’s going on. You are in complete control of your thoughts the entire time. Getting to know yourself better can in fact be a lot of fun and I like to encourage people to think of hypnosis as going on an adventure in your own mind.

Will I lose control of my thoughts and actions while in hypnosis?

No you will not. You remain in control during your entire session. Even though you will be in a relaxed state, you will not do or say anything you don’t want. You will always have complete control over what you say, do, think and feel - the entire time.

While in hypnosis, can I be made to reveal secrets or do things I would not normally do, such as quack like a duck?

You remain in control during your entire hypnosis session and will not do or say anything you don’t want to do or say. Your hypnosis session is tailored specifically for you and is created to help you achieve specific goals in life. So unless quacking like a duck is something you want to do, then it will not happen.

What does being in hypnosis feel like?

Imagine sleeping in after a good night’s rest when you find yourself waking up naturally. You are lying in bed before getting up, daydreaming about your day ahead with your eyes closed. During this time your body feels rested and calm, but your mind is awake and aware. Hypnosis feels a lot like this. The difference is that I will be talking to you. We will interact freely with each other while your body remains relaxed and your mind is present and aware the entire time.

What is stage hypnosis and how is it different from traditional hypnosis?

Stage hypnotism is a safe form of public entertainment where people from the audience volunteer to be hypnotized on stage. Both stage and traditional hypnosis serve a purpose but are different in many ways. Stage hypnosis is used to entertain people while traditional hypnosis is used to help people.

A stage hypnotist gives suggestions meant to entertain the audience while the suggestions given by a traditional hypnotist are meant to help you reach personal goals. A traditional hypnotist focuses on new ideas and suggestions that are tailored specifically for you that have a positive impact in your life.

What is the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist?

Hypnotist and hypnotherapist are job titles that are used interchangeably within the hypnosis community. For example, I have certifications from two different organizations which is why I am a consulting hypnotist with one organization and a hypnotherapist with another. The work I do is the same regardless of my title.

Can anyone be hypnotized and is there a possibility I can’t be?

Most people can be hypnotized, but it's purely voluntary. So if you don’t want to be hypnotized you can’t and won’t be. Your ability to be hypnotized depends upon your ability to relax, how receptive you are and how well you can follow directions.

The more apprehensive you are during hypnosis, the more you may overthink what is going on and this can impede relaxation. Understanding that you're in charge of your own mind will make it easier for you to relax and go into hypnosis. And just like a lot of other things in life, your ability to be hypnotized and reap the most benefit from hypnosis improves with practice.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis and not come out?

You will be awake and aware of everything going on during hypnosis; therefore, it is not possible to get stuck in it. You can open your eyes and be out of hypnosis voluntarily at any moment. This is because you are in control during the entire session.

How and why does hypnosis work?

As a child, if we wanted to do something that needed permission from a parent or guardian, we learned early in life that we were more likely to get a "yes" when the parent or guardian was in a good mood. This is because when someone is in a good mood, chances are they are also more relaxed.

When someone is more relaxed, their mind is more open. In other words, as humans, we are more receptive when we’re relaxed. This is basically how and why hypnosis works. When your mind and body are relaxed, your mind is open to accepting positive new thoughts or ideas. The end result can be powerful and life changing.

What is online hypnosis like over Zoom?

Most people are curious to know what hypnosis is like online. The set up is fairly easy! You'll need a tablet, laptop or desktop with a webcam and although your cell phone isn't preferred, using your cell phone is ok if it's your only option. A stable Wi-Fi connection is required in a room where no one will interrupt you. You'll also need to be able to sit or lie down comfortably for your entire session.

One of the best parts of an online hypnosis session is that you get to experience it in the comfort of your own home while not having to drive to your appointment before and after. I also record your session over Zoom so that you can watch it back later if you so desire.

How can I schedule a session with you?

Even if you're familiar with hypnosis, I require a free online consultation with every new client before booking a hypnosis session. During your 30-minute consultation, we will learn more about each other and talk about what you're wanting to accomplish through hypnosis. I will also answer any and all questions you may have. Then after our initial meeting, if you would like to book a session with me, we can do so.

Do I need to believe in past lives or reincarnation in order to have a successful past life regression?

No, you don’t need to believe in past lives or reincarnation in order to benefit from past life regression. When you're under hypnosis during a past life regression, it's like writing a book about life experiences in real time. It doesn't matter if the book you're writing is fiction or non-fiction. Your inner mind comes up with images, experiences and feelings that have value to you and that you can benefit from.

What you experience while under hypnosis is a mirror into your mind and soul. This is the significance of a past life regression, regardless of whether or not you believe in past lives and reincarnation.

Is experience with hypnosis required before I can book a past life regression?

It depends. If you've never been hypnotized before, it's not required but definitely helpful to have at least one traditional hypnosis session with me before scheduling a past life regression. This way you can gain some experience with what hypnosis feels like first.

On the other hand, the most important quality I like to see in my clients before doing a past life regression is the ability to trust themselves. The more you trust the wisdom that comes from within yourself, the more beneficial a past life regression can be for you. If you're familiar with meditation and are comfortable with your own internal sense of intuition, then you may not need any experience with hypnosis before scheduling a past life regression with me.

If you think you'd like to have a traditional session first, I offer a package where you can book a traditional hypnosis session and past life regression session at the same time for a discount. The sessions will be on different days.

And if you still have questions, that's what my free consultation is for! Contact me now to schedule.
